About Us

Our pastor is Paul H. Lewis.

Pastor Paul holds a BSE from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, and a MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. God inspired his heart as a teenager to enter the ministry, but he struggled with God’s request. He was a gifted athlete and had set his eyes on business. While he attended a youth camp at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly in Oklahoma, he committed his life to the vocation God designed for him. He then began preparing with education and service. He moved from his home in northeastern Oklahoma and moved to Texas to enter college, but before completing his degree, he became a pastor. At the age of twenty-one, he stepped into his first church in Oklahoma. He and his wife, Gay, served in Oklahoma for their first married year, and then moved to Texas. With the exception of that one year, the Lewis’ have led churches in Texas. Although Pastor Paul has been the shepherd of sizeable churches with numerous staff members, he now shepherds the small congregation at The Church at Second Baptist of Rosenberg, Texas. He felt the time had come to enjoy a pastorate where all the people knew each other—a smaller family.

Our pastor’s Wife, Gay N. Lewis

Gay N. Lewis married Pastor Paul on a Thursday night in Dallas, packed her things on Friday, and headed to Oklahoma with her new groom early on Saturday morning.  They spent Saturday night sleeping on the floor in the church parsonage. Sunday morning came, and Pastor Paul entered the pulpit of the First Baptist Church of Boudinot, Oklahoma to present his wife to the congregation. He said, “folks, I’d like you to meet my wife, Gay Morton.” Then he grinned. “Sorry about that. We’ve only been married three days. Her name is Gay Lewis.” Gay N. Lewis, as she’s known today, is a Christian author and Bible study leader. You can find her books on Amazon. She writes a blog and also plays the piano for the services at The Church at Second Baptist, Rosenberg, Texas. The Lewis’ have three grown daughters, four grandchildren, and numerous granddogs and grandcats. You can find additional information and see more picture of the Lewis family on these links: http://www.gaynlewis.blogspot.com on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2hwc6nB and on www.facebook.com/GayNLewis and also on Twitter @GayNLewis2.

Our History

In the mid 1950’s, we, The Church at Second Baptist, Rosenberg met in a tent on 2.4 acres at 4100 Avenue N, in Rosenberg, TX. By 1958, the congregation dedicated the first building. It included a sanctuary, fellowship area, and educational space. Over the years, members donated time, materials, and skills to refurbish and remodel the facility. We drew up plans and hired a contractor to build a fellowship hall in 2010.

Believers marvel at God’s mysterious ways, and so did we at Second Baptist. A mega church, Anchor Bend, surprised the congregation when they came along in 2015 and wanted to buy the buildings and property. They needed offices and an area for their school. After prayer and deliberation, we sold to them. In the sales contract, Anchor Bend allowed Second Baptist to use the facilities free-of-charge for five years.

In November, 2021, Anchor Bend sold the facilities on Avenue N, and Second Baptist needed to move. A daycare, The Little School, agreed to allow us to meet in their facilities.

God gave us a miracle when He led us to the Little School. This sweet, small facility was once a church, and it looks like one!  At one time, Segunda Baptista Iglesias owned the building. When Segunda moved to its present location, they sold to the Little School. As an interesting side note, Segunda Baptista was once a mission of Second Baptist, Rosenberg.  God is amazing. He likes to bring people full circle.

In January 2024, The Church at Second Baptist needed to move again.  The daycare needed the space. After much searching, Pastor Lewis negotiated with Pastor Gonzales of Primera Iglesia Bautista to meet in their facility.

The two churches met simultaneously in separate areas of the building for the first time on February 18, 2024. Second Baptist assembles meets on Sunday morning in the sanctuary at 9:30 for worship while Primera Iglesia convenes in the fellowship hall for Bible Study. The two churches switch places at 10:45. Second Baptist moves to the fellowship hall for Bible Study, and Primera Iglesia shifts to the sanctuary for worship. Both churches get together once a month for a potluck luncheon.

The Church at Second Baptist celebrates 70 years of ministry, while Primera Iglesia celebrates 76 years of ministry. Primera Iglesia facility remains in its first location and has beautiful original furniture.  Both small churches, one in English, and the other in Spanish, enjoy one Spirit as they worship in one place.

From her early beginning in a tent, Second Baptist, Rosenberg, has changed over the years, but God continues to use and bless her. Many people, some now in heaven, had a part in God’s work. Numerous people came to know the Lord, Jesus Christ because of this dedicated congregation.

Ministry will remain at Avenue N., the place where Second Baptist began. The entity that purchased the property plans to use the facility as a halfway house! The idea is to help people who are down and out. People who were once incarcerated need a second chance to reestablish their lives.

The phenomenal thing is that God keeps using 4100 Ave N to reach people for His purposes. Our tiny church that began in the 1950’s has been and will remain as a blessing to the Lord. The Apostle wrote, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” I Corinthians 3:6, KJV.

In other words, we at Second Baptist Rosenberg have been part of the planting and watering, and God is giving the increase to His diverse work.

Join us at our new location, 503 4 th Street in Rosenberg.

You will want to be part of the exciting events God brings about.
